Arab Health 2017 day 1 round-up

The Howard de Walden Estate, local landlord and steward of the Harley Street Medical Area (HSMA) travelled to Arab Health 2017 with 21 world-renowned medical clinics and hospital groups and one support service.

The Arab Health conference, which is held in Dubai, attracts over 130,000 visitors from across the globe, and this year HCA International, King Edward VII's Hospital, Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Specialist Care, and Schoen Clinic were amongst those showcasing their medical excellence as part of HSMA.

This year's event was officially opened by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktown, Deputy Leader of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance. The HSMA was very proud to welcome the Sheikh to the UK Pavilion and in particular the HSMA stand.

The HSMA stand (Z1F30) has a full schedule of presentations across the four-day conference, including talks from 108 Medical Chambers on second opinion services and collaboration, Moorfields Private discuss working collaboratively to treat your private opthalmic patients, Advanced Oncotherapy presented on how to focus your energy on saving lives.

We also had inspirational talks from Re:Cognition Health, Isokinetic, Harley Street Fertility Clinic, and many more.

Dr Olga Kapellou, Consultant Paediatrician & Neonatologist, HCA International took to the stage on the first day of Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, which attracts a wide range of visitors across the spectrum of healthcare including: medical manufacturers, general practitioners, hospital doctors, hospital managers, hospital nursing staff, hospital technical managers, laboratory managers, physiotherapists, medical assistants and dealers and distributors.

Dr Olga presented on Neonatal Hyperbilirubinaemia (jaundice), one of the most common conditions needing medical attention in newborn babies. About 60% of term and 80% of preterm babies develop jaundice in the first week of life, and about 10% of breast fed babies are still jaundiced at age 1 month. Neonatal jaundice is generally harmless, but high concentrations of unconjugated bilirubin may occasionally cause kernicterus (permanent brain damage).
